Light Relief For The Group

by admin

Earlier this year Group Eight Theatre Company were lucky enough to be selected to receive a grant from the Empowering Councillors and Communities Scheme, enabled by our local county councilor Michael Clarke. It was awarded following our application to help replace some of our aging lighting equipment, which we had been using for approximately 20 years and these were second hand when we acquired them.

We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Councillor Clarke and the Empowering Councillors and Communities Scheme for supporting our application.

The first batch of new lights are now hanging above the front of the stage, these are “state of the art” digitally controlled LED lights, they were used for the first time during our recent Pantomime “Captain Hook’s Revenge”. They are not only more flexible, but also much more efficient, using only about one tenth of the energy of the old lights they replace.

You could say that, Group Eight is now in fact at the forefront of technology as the 2014 Nobel Prize for Physics has just been awarded to 3 scientists for the invention of an efficient blue LED. One quarter of the world’s energy consumption is used for lighting. Cutting this will dramatically reduce total global energy consumption and therefore reduce global warming.

Below you can see the old lighting with traditional bulbs being maintained by our Lighting Engineer as well as an example of the new LED lights we have just installed.
